Innovation Award

The ASCILITE Innovation Award was introduced in 2011 as the “Innovation & Excellence” award.  It celebrates work undertaken by an individual or team of people in support of the exemplary and research informed use of technologies for teaching and learning in tertiary education. Innovation is defined as a new idea, device or process. It is something original that “breaks into” teaching and learning in the tertiary sector.  For further information, refer to the Innovation Award Criteria and Nomination form below.

Nominees must be an ASCILITE member in order to submit an award nomination.   View this page to see if your institution is an institutional member in ASCILITE and whether or not you are eligible.

The Allan Christie ASCILITE Innovation Award will be judged from Innovation Award nominations and announced at the Annual ASCILITE Conference at the Awards Ceremony. Allan Christie was involved with ASCILITE since its conception in 1985. He was recognised with a Life Member award in 2003 (only the fourth person to receive this honour at the time). Allan continued to serve the Society for over 36 years and was on the ASCILITE Executive for 27 years when he retired from the Executive in December 2019. Allan was well known in higher education and sadly passed away suddenly last year. He is missed greatly in the ASCILITE circles.

The Anthology Educational Designer of the Year Award, in memory of Allan Christie

The Anthology Educational Designer of the Year Award, in memory of Allan Christie, was announced at the ASCILITE 2022 conference after Allan’s sudden passing in August of 2022. In recognition of Allan’s contribution to the sector and his lifelong passion and commitment to the use of technology in learning, this Award rewards a professional staff member who has made significant contributions to learning and teaching. It recognises achievements in pedagogical design, instructional efficiencies, communication and collaboration, actionable insights and universal design across the education landscape. The Educational Designer of the Year Award is sponsored by Anthology to the value of $1,000.
