Expressions of Interest for ASCILITE’s 2023-2024 Women in Academic Leadership

Applications for ASCILITE Women in Academic Leadership initiative 2023-2024, are now being accepted via Expressions of Interest, and are due before the28th October.

* Note that all mentee applicants must be a current member of ASCILITE and for the duration of the initiative which runs for 2 years.

ASCILITE Women in Academic Leadership aims to provide mentoring opportunities for academics at Levels C or D (or equivalent), with mentors from Level D or E.

This initiative will bring together its members via a community approach to support each other to progress in academia.

The benefits of participation in the initiative include: 

  • Tips and advice on academic promotion from members;
  • Seminars for mentoring on relevant topics suggested by the cohort;
  • Expansion of skills, knowledge and experience such as communication, leadership, storytelling, visibility and strategic planning; and
  • Opportunity for networking and to create contacts outside of the individual’s own workplace.

Application Process 

Expressions of Interest are invited from ASCILITE members who wish to become a mentee or a mentor. This is a competitive process and successful mentees are matched with other mentees and mentors who have expertise in applicable areas.

Final Reminder:  The ASCILITE Spring into Excellence Research School

EOI extended to September 28th 2022

Final days to register your EOI for the 2022 Spring into Excellence Research School at Deakin Downtown campus from 24th – 26th October.

This three-day program includes lunches, morning and afternoon teas, as well as expert presenters for a cost of $600.00 for ASCILITE current financial members or $750.00 for non-members – includes a 12-month membership.

The Research School commences at lunchtime day one – Monday – and finishes at around 1:00pm on day three – Wednesday.  Further details can be found here.

Expressions of interest to attend the 2022 ASCILITE Spring into Excellence Research School have been extended to 28th September 2022. Please note that there are limited places available so don’t be disappointed, register today.

EOI outcome notifications will be sent by 30th September 2022 and successful applicants will be provided with registration and payment options at that time.

Reminder:  2022 ASCILITE Awards Open for Nominations

Nominations close 18 October 2022

Each year, ASCILITE members are invited to apply or nominate for the ASCILITE awards and to consider nominations that they believe meet the criteria set for each award. The four award categories available to members in 2022 are as follows:

  • Innovation Award
    • Celebrates work undertaken by an individual or team of people in support of the exemplary and research informed use of technologies for teaching and learning in tertiary education. Innovation is defined as a new idea, device or process. It is something original that “breaks into” teaching and learning in the tertiary sector.
  • Emerging Scholar Award
    • Has made a noteworthy contribution in the exemplary use of ore research into technologies for learning and teaching in tertiary education
  • Community Fellow Award
    • Recognise the outstanding contributions of individual ASCILITE members in the exemplary building of connections in the wider community and into the ASCILITE community.
  • Life Member Award
    • A prestigious award that recognizes the significant service and/or sustained contribution of an ASCILITE member to the Society
  • Student Bursary Award
    • Available to full-time PhD/EdD or equivalent students

Reminder:  Call for Applications in the 2022 – 2023 D2L / ASCILITE Research Grants

Close 27th October 2022

ASCILITE is pleased to continue its partnership with D2L and to now open the call for 2022 – 2023 Research/Scholarship grant applications.

The D2L / ASCILITE grants are only available to ASCILITE members. A maximum funding of $5,000 will be made available per project although it is possible that less funding may be made available per project in order to fund a higher number of projects. D2L contributes $5,000 per year with ASCILITE contributing the balance of $5,000. Funding was made available in 2021 – 2022 and is now available for 2022 – 2023.

Grant applicants have one year to complete their projects with a final report due in March of the following year.

Research/scholarship grants that involve more than one university are encouraged.

At least one member of the research team must be an Early Career Researcher (within five years of PhD or equivalent completion).

TELedvisors webinar – Unpacking SIG

At the end of September, we have a slightly different event. In an attempt to unpack the meaning of our Special Interest Group, we call on TELedvisors to come and have their say. We will gather in an Orbital Chat Galaxy which will be designed by the community and hosted by Wendy Taleo. Can we answer these three questions: What is special about TELedvisors? What are your top three interests? What makes you feel you belong to this SIG? Whether you are a long time SIG member or joining our events for the first time, we encourage your voice in this event. Graduates need to be prepared to enter the workforce equipped to harness digital, with AI literacy becoming an increasingly important skill in graduates. This program will explore creating graduates that are prepared for the interconnected, fast-changing world saturated with technological devices and big data.

Learning Design SIG October webinar:  The ACAD framework: Core ideas and recent developments

Abstract: The Activity-Centred Analysis and Design (ACAD) Framework is an analytical tool, created to help educators and researchers understand and improve the design of complex learning situations. ACAD highlights design structures at two distinct moments: (i) ‘design time’ – which accounts for the advanced planning that occurs as an educator selects tasks, tools, and complementary social arrangements to support a specific learning scenario; and (ii) ‘learning time’ or what happens as a learning activity unfolds. In this presentation Lucila Carvalho will introduce key ideas connected to the ACAD Framework and discuss the application of these analytical ideas by educational researchers and designers across universities and school contexts

Reminder:  2022 Australasian Learning Analytics Summer Institute – Call for proposals

We are delighted to announce that the 2022 Australian Learning Analytics Summer Institute (ALASI22) will be held face-to-face, in Sydney! After a 2-year hiatus, it will be fantastic to connect with each other again, welcome new people into the community, and to share our know-how and know-who to build the Learning Analytics community’s capability.

ALASI has been timed to follow immediately after ASCILITE 2022 at University of Sydney. So, if you’re attending the ASCILITE conference, just add an extra 2 nights on, and walk down the road to UTS.
