ASCILITE NEWS

🎲 Five weeks to go – welcome to BrisVegas! 🎲

Somehow, we are now just five weeks out from our major event, ASCILITE 2026.

And that means it’s time to reveal this year’s Gala Dinner theme: BRISVEGAS!

We’re bringing a little Vegas glitz and glamour to Brisbane for our Tuesday night Gala Dinner and Awards, so start thinking about your BrisVegas-inspired outfit. Think sparkle, sequins, showtime, Elvis, casino chic, or simply something that makes you feel ready for a fabulous night out.

If “BrisVegas” is new to you, it’s Brisbane’s long-standing, slightly tongue-in-cheek nickname, playing on the bright lights and glamour of Las Vegas. You can read a little about the story behind the name in this ABC explainer on BrisVegas.

More Gala Dinner details will be coming soon – but for now, get those costumes ready!

We need more Conference Buddies!

We have been delighted (and slightly overwhelmed) by the number of newcomers joining us this year. Around 130 delegates have identified themselves as first-timers, compared with around 60 in previous years.

That is wonderful news for our community, but it also means we really need some more experienced ASCILITE conference-goers to put their hands up to be Conference Buddies.

Being a buddy is simply about providing a friendly connection for someone attending for the first time – saying hello, helping them find their feet and making it a little easier to become part of the ASCILITE community.

If you can help, please email conference@ascilite.org with the subject line Conference Buddy Volunteer. We would love to hear from you.

Volunteer as a Conference Session Chair

We are now seeking volunteers to chair sessions at the conference.

Chairing a session is a great way to support presenters, help sessions run smoothly, and contribute to the conference experience. Session chairs will introduce speakers, keep an eye on timing, and facilitate questions where applicable.

If you are interested, please complete the Expression of Interest form to indicate your availability to chair. We will use this information when allocating session chair roles across the program.

We appreciate your support and look forward to hearing from you.

Registered but not yet paid?

With the conference fast approaching, we are now finalising delegate numbers and arrangements with the venue.

We currently have around 80 registrations with payment still outstanding. If this includes you, please arrange payment of your invoice as soon as possible so that we can confirm your registration.

We will also need to close the “Invoice Me” registration option two weeks before the conference to allow sufficient time for invoices to be processed and payments received. After this date, registrations will still be possible, but payment will need to be made at the time of registration.

Final call: Art.Intelligence

This is your final call to express your interest in Art.Intelligence, our collaborative creative project exploring the conference theme through human and AI-enabled creativity.
Interested? Find out more and register your interest on the Art.Intelligence page.

Researchers at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) are seeking academic and professional staff at Australian universities to participate in a study exploring the institutional conditions that shape readiness for program-level assessment (PLA) and related curriculum transformation.

Participants should be involved in teaching, learning, curriculum design, assessment or academic development, and have at least six months’ relevant experience in program-level assessment, curriculum transformation or a related institutional initiative.

Participation involves a one-on-one online interview via Microsoft Teams, taking approximately 40–60 minutes.

Please review the Participant Information Statement and Consent Form (PISCF) and, if interested, complete the Expression of Interest (EOI) form.

This study has been approved by the UNSW Human Research Ethics Advisory Panel (HREAP D – Biomedical), Project Id 10236.

HKAECT International Conference 2027

HKAECT International Conference 2027 invites scholars, educators and researchers to explore how education, communication and technology shape culture in an era of rapid digital change.

Held online and in Hong Kong from 9–11 June 2027, the conference, Storehouse of Culture: Interactions between Education, Communications and Technology, welcomes 500-word presentation proposals and full papers of 10–20 pages.

The call encourages interdisciplinary work across education, communication, social sciences and the humanities. Contributors may submit theoretical or empirical studies, case studies, policy analyses and critical reviews. Priority themes include inclusion, diversity and multilingualism in AI-assisted learning; AI governance, ethics literacy and effective instruction; technology’s role in cultural diversity, learner collaboration and motivation; cognition, bilingual communication and neurolinguistics; innovative educational technologies for classroom and remote learning; music, identity and communication; and language policy, discourse and translanguaging.

Extended abstracts should clearly present objectives, research questions, methods, findings and contributions. They will undergo blind peer review, and accepted authors who register will be invited to present and be included in the conference programme. Authors may submit up to two manuscripts.

More information is available here.

LAK27 Volunteer Production Assistant – Apply Now!

The Society for Learning Analytics Research (SoLAR) is seeking graduate student volunteers to help prepare the proceedings of the Learning Analytics and Knowledge (LAK) conference.

Accepted LAK27 long and short research papers will be published in the Journal of Learning Analytics (JLA) rather than in the ACM proceedings, as in all previous years. This shift requires each accepted manuscript to be reformatted to meet JLA’s layout standards.

The role: Volunteers will carry out layout editing of accepted papers — correcting formatting, structure, and typesetting so that each manuscript conforms to JLA requirements. You will be trained and supported throughout by the LAK Proceedings Chairs and the LAK Publication Workflow and Training Manager, working from clear written instructions and guidelines.

Requirements: Essential skills include working knowledge of LaTeX and MS Word. Prior editorial or typesetting experience is welcome but not required; attention to detail and reliability are essential.

Recognition: While this is a volunteer role, this prestigious affiliation will enhance your professional stature and can be prominently featured on your CV, showcasing your commitment to excellence and collaboration in the learning analytics field. Moreover, you will receive a 50% discount on LAK27 conference registration.
