ASCILITE 2018 Conference Update

There’s only a week to go before ASCILITE 2018 kicks-off but if you haven’t already registered, there’s still time to join your peers at one of the best TEL conferences of the year.   The final conference program is now available online.

Not to be missed is Dr Paul LeBlanc’s keynote at the conference and you’ll see why by reading this article “Meet the New Mega University”.

The conference dinner is always a great event and one not to be missed. This year’s theme is Oceans – Nautical/Pirate/Beach.

The conference has a range of exciting workshops available on Sunday, 25 November and there’s still time to register for these but be quick. You’ll find details here.

Transforming Assessment SIG News

A recording of the previous TA-SIG webinar is now available. “Mindful assessment design” which was held on Wednesday 7 Nov 2018, was presented by Dr Samuel Elkington (Teesside University, UK). You can view the recording via http://ta.vu/7N2018

This was the TA-SIG’s last webinar for 2018. A new series of webinars will commence in 2019, beginning with joint sessions involving the e-Assessment Association UK Awards and Assessment in Higher Education UK conference.

SoTEL 2019: Scholarship of Technology Enhanced Learning

The inaugural Scholarship of Technology Enhanced Learning (SoTEL) symposium held earlier this year was an unqualified success. feedback has been extremely positive, with a clear request for a continuation of this valuable and relevant event. The next event will take place at the Auckland University of Technology City Campus on 14 and 15 February 2019.

The Symposium is open to all innovative and passionate educators from the Secondary and Tertiary sectors and organisations creating opportunities for students to learn with the support of technology. Videos of the 2018 Trendsetters are now available on the website: http://sotel.nz/sotel2018/.

Job Vacancy: Director, Learning Design, Online Education Services (OES)

Formed out of the successful partnership with SEEK Ltd and Swinburne University of Technology, which remains a key client partner in Australia, OES was established to challenge and advance the online education industry, providing a new student-centric approach to adult education.

OES creates engaging online learning experiences for students who are not catered for by traditional campus-based offerings. OES delivers end to end education services to support partners to reach a new demographic of students across a broader range of national and international markets.

The role:

This is a unique opportunity for an innovative thinker to evolve OES’s evidence based online learning strategy. Reporting to the Executive Academic Director, the Director, Learning Designer is a pivotal role to the successful delivery of Learning Design across multiple partner universities.

Day to day the role is responsible for informing the strategic learning and teaching direction of the team, project management and timely delivery of units, and liaising with senior academics across our partners to ensure that our online units provide the best possible student learning experience.

The focus will be overseeing the development and implementation of quality online programmes that comply with OES’s pedagogical model, module quality standards, and optimise the student learning experience.

About you:

  • Masters or PhD in a relevant discipline and/or extensive experience in a senior learning and teaching role within the Higher Education or Commercial sector.
  • Experience in tertiary teaching environments that address contemporary approaches to learner-centred, flexible education, including online.
  • Mastery of pedagogy, innovative design and delivery methods, and tools for online teaching.
  • Ability and desire to support business development activities including attending client presentations and pitch meetings, and to operate within a commercial environment.
  • High standard of interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to develop effective stakeholder relationships, and influence outcomes.
  • Process and project management experience in environments of competing priorities, tight deadlines and multiple stakeholders.
  • Exceptional people management skills and experience essential
  • Initiative, curiosity and someone who will enjoy the challenges of an agile and fast-paced start-up, are also vital to success in this role.
