ASCILITE Conference History
The first three ASCILITE conferences (called CALITE conferences) were held in 1983, 1984 and 1985 and were hosted by the University of Queensland. The first conference branded as ‘ASCILITE’ was held in Adelaide in 1986. The only exception was in 1990 when the ASCILITE conference was hosted as part of the World Congress of Computers in Education, Sydney. ASCILITE conferences are now held annually.
ASET Sponsored Conference Proceedings (1986 – 2002)
The predecessor of ASCILITE was the Australian Society of Educational Technology (ASET) founded in 1975. ASET was dissolved in 2005 at which time it’s conference archives were given to ASCILITE. During its 30 year history, ASET and its members promoted educational technology through publications, conferences and local chapter meetings. Achievements included the founding of AJET in 1985 and conducting a series of biennial EdTech Conferences. Conference proceedings during this period include the ASET conference 2002, ASET-HERDSA Conference 2000, Edtech conferences (1986 – 1996) and IIMS conferences (1992 – 1996). You may view the proceedings for each of these conferences here.
