Third space professionals navigate the intersection of academic and professional work. During this session, we will explore the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and its relevance to your practice as a third space professional.

This session will provide practical strategies for conducting research on your own teaching and learning activities, offering insights into how you can systematically investigate and enhance your educational practice. We will discuss effective approaches to designing SoTL inquiries, gathering and analysing evidence, and disseminating findings.

Additionally, we will explore how engaging in SoTL can serve as a valuable means of evidencing impact for awards, promotions, and career development.

TELedvisors – SIG March Webinar: Working in the Higher Education Third Space

Time: 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm (AEDT)Third space practitioners working in higher education strive to enable and support better learning and teaching using their professional expertise. They can face a number of challenges in building relationships and contributing to the decision-making which directly impacts their work.

This webinar draws on two publications from the recent Journal of Learning Development in Higher Education special issue on the third space.

A narrative account of third space technology enhanced learning and teaching roles working in Australian higher education: Meredith Hinze (UniMelb) and Kashmira Dave (Uni New England) will discuss their paper exploring the nature of several key third space roles and connections between their professional identity, professional relationships and organisational context.

Institutional responsibility and third space professionals: a call for structural change to embrace ambiguity: Evonne Irwin (UniMelb) will then discuss her paper examining the need for more effective communication, inclusion, and opportunity creation for third space practitioners in higher ed.

The session will conclude with discussion of issues arising from these papers and consideration of what we can do about them.

TELAS Reviewer Certification workshop on campus at The University of Sydney – April 9

The Technology Enhanced Learning Accreditation Standards (TELAS) are a set of internationally benchmarked standards designed to assess the quality of online learning, particularly in relation to the tertiary sector. They provide institutions with the means to assess and evaluate the affordances of their online learning environments and thereby guide quality enhancements.

The next TELAS Reviewer Certification Workshop is now open for registration.

CMALT (Certified Membership of ALT) Week 2025

The CMALT Accreditation Framework offers pathways to peer-assessed accreditation for Learning Technology professionals both in the UK and internationally. It caters to professionals who are actively involved in understanding, managing, researching, supporting, or enabling learning through the use of Learning Technology.

The Association for Learning Technology (ALT) is running CMALT week – a group of activities and events dedicated to celebrating the CMALT Accreditation Framework,  supporting CMALT candidates and assessors, and welcoming new certified members.

ALT are pleased to share that the Call for Proposals for the Open Education Conference 2025 is now open.Conference Theme: As the narratives on artificial intelligence (AI) gather traction and populist movements dominate public debates, Open Education faces new challenges and opportunities. The conference will consider the future of Open Education in a changing world and explore these key questions;

  • How can we adapt Open Education Practices (OEP) and Open Educational Resources (OER) when AI makes content creation easier but less transparent?
  • Generative AI can produce unlimited educational material, but its reliance on existing content raises questions about originality, accuracy, and ethics. What legal and ethical issues arise from the undeclared use of open content by AI?

Submissions are open for Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoLT) Conference hosted by TAFE Queensland on the 2nd at 3rd of July in South Bank, Queensland.  This years conference theme is “Empowering education through confidence and change”. We welcome abstract, paper and poster submissions focus on topics that related to one following tracks;

  • Track 1: Embracing teaching and learning innovations in AI
  • Track 2: Empowering tertiary education harmonisation
  • Track 3: Embracing educational justice, integrity and inclusivity
  • Track 4: Empowering partnerships and community engagement
