LA-SIG: Discovery Workshop 3 – What should we measure to better understand AI Learning Processes?

Date:  Wednesday 19 November 2025
Time: 12pm (AEDT)

The third workshop in the “Unlocking Indicators of Learning in AI-Assisted Education” series will focus on what we should be measuring. As we move beyond simple content recall, we aim to surface indicators of complex, transferable skills, such as self-regulated learning (SRL), critical thinking, and employability-relevant competencies. These indicators are subtle and often require multi-source, multi-modal evidence to truly capture what mastery looks like.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will be given the opportunity to work with an example student assessment (including student responses) to determine what measures of learning are present and how these can be analysed in a way that will give educators a greater understanding of how their students are learning in an AI-present environment.

To participate in this discovery workshop you can register here.

TELall Blog latest post:  Rage Against the Machine: Linguistic Hostility and AI Shaming in Education and Culture

This piece explores the emergence of AI-related slurs and derogatory language in online discourse, and examines how these linguistic patterns shape attitudes toward technology, identity, and knowledge work. The post also reflects on the implications for digital literacy, inclusion, and learning culture in higher education.

TELAS in the Age of AI

It has been five years since the operationalisation of the TELAS framework. In that time, the emergence of generative AI has transformed many aspects of learning and teaching in higher education. The TELAS team is now exploring how the framework might evolve to reflect these changes and ensure its continued relevance in an AI-enhanced educational landscape.

Our work will begin with a session at this year’s conference to gather feedback and ideas for an updated version of the framework. This will be followed by a series of three to four online consultations in early 2026. The revised TELAS framework is scheduled for publication by April 2026.

Enhance Teaching Quality and Gain Recognition through TELAS: Apply for your course or program to have a TELAS Peer-Review

Are you looking to enhance the quality of your online or blended learning?

The Technology Enhanced Learning Accreditation Standards (TELAS) offers a rigorous, evidence-based framework to review and improve the design of digital learning, whether at the unit, course, program, school, or institutional level.

TELAS reviews provide valuable, structured feedback and benchmarking aligned with national standards. Reviewed learning packages receive a TELAS digital badge, which can support promotion, award applications, or internal quality assurance processes. Most importantly, the process helps ensure that students benefit from a more coherent and high-quality learning experience.

We currently have capacity in our review schedule. If you’re curious about how TELAS could be applied in your context or would like to explore a School or institution-wide approach please contact us on admin@telas.com for a conversation with the TELAS team. You can also review the accreditation fees here.

European Open and Digital Learning Week

Dates: 24 – 28 November 2025

EDEN proudly hosts the European Open and Digital Learning Week (EODLW) for the tenth consecutive year.

This year’s theme is: The Human–AI Partnership: Transforming Teaching and Learning

The event is organised in partnership with the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA), which will be holding its National Distance Learning Week (NDLW), and the Flexible Learning Association of New Zealand (FLANZ) and Open and Distance Learning Association of Australia (ODLAA), who joined efforts to offer the Asia-Pacific Online and Distance Education Week (APODE).

During the European Open and Digital Learning Week, we will explore how artificial intelligence can complement, rather than replace, the role of educators. We aim, through a number of webinars 💻, to highlight practical ways in which AI can support teaching, enhance student engagement, and personalise learning pathways, while addressing challenges such as ethics, equity, trust, and the informed use of AI. Participants will gain insights into how human expertise and AI tools can work together to create more effective, inclusive, and future-ready learning environments. 🌍

During EODLW, you will have access to daily online webinars and panel sessions featuring expert scholars and practitioners who will present best practices and expertise in online and distance education, as well as discuss with the audience the challenges in shaping the future of education and how we can more fully harness the potential of new models of online and distance learning. The initial program for EODLW can be found here: 🔗
