ASCILITE May Webinar: Adding Insult to Injustice: How Justice Perceptions and Social Media Shape Vengeful Dissent in Online and On-Campus Education

Date: Thursday 22 May 2025
Time: 11:00 am (AEDT)

Ever received an angry email from a student? Online education is booming, but it comes with unique challenges—one of which is the reported greater volatility of students studying one. In this webinar, Dr Lauren Shaw (James Cook University) explores findings from Adding Insult to Injustice, a study examining how perceptions of fairness (procedural justice) and the use of student-led social media groups influence vengeful dissent in both online and on-campus higher education. Join us to unpack the implications of this research and discuss strategies to better support online student engagement while protecting staff wellbeing.

AJET’s 40th Anniversary – First issue of the year released

It is with great pleasure that we announce AJET’s 40th Anniversary in 2025 with the release of our first issue of the year. In this issue the Lead Editors reflect on the role of AJET in helping to address the theory and practice gap in educational technology. Articles in this issue explore the critical aspects of digital well-being for students navigating online learning, innovative pedagogical approaches in online language learning through the immersive potential of virtual reality environments, the interconnectedness of digital, intercultural, and transdisciplinary education, the pressing need for educator upskilling in the face of rapidly advancing generative artificial intelligence technologies, the effectiveness of collaborative note-taking strategies in enhancing learning, and the subtle yet significant effects of metacognitive prompts on student outcomes. This issue of AJET continues our commitment to providing evidence to inform practice and shape the future of technology-enhanced learning in tertiary settings. We invite you to explore these impactful articles and join us in celebrating this significant milestone year.
