AJET Call for Associate Editors for the Australasian Journal of Educational Technology (AJET).

We invite applications for new Associate Editors to join the existing editorial team of the Australasian Journal of Educational Technology (AJET).

The context

AJET seeks expressions of interest for the role of Associate Editor. Associate Editors work with the Lead Editors to oversee the review process of the papers and other work of the journal. This call for Associate Editors is to continue to further build our team diversity and expertise, and to ensure the workload is sustainable.

This is a global call. EOIs from Associate Editors in all regions, including outside of Australasia are welcome.

The appointment of Associate Editors will initially be for three years.

Background

The Australasian Journal of Educational Technology (AJET) is a highly regarded, influential, open access, online journal that has international standing and reach. It publishes peer reviewed scholarly research related to the educational use of technologies in the tertiary education sector. AJET is the official journal of the Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (ASCILITE) and has an Editorial Board and Management Committee. Since January 2012, AJET has utilised the Online Journal Systems (OJS) as its online journal management and publishing system.

Broad responsibilities – Associate Editor

The main role of associate editors is take carriage of manuscripts assigned to them after initial screening by a lead editor. They then assign the articles to suitable reviewers, manage and determine the outcome of the review process, and liaise with authors about their manuscript prior to passing the manuscript to a copy and layout editor. Associate Editors are senior academics with considerable responsibility in ensuring the high quality of the journal papers. Associate Editor’s need to be able to act on peer review evaluations and make difficult decisions about rejecting, asking for changes or accepting submissions. Associate Editors also have opportunities to shape the direction of the journal, engage in strategic planning and work on strategic projects. Associate Editors are expected to commit a small amount of time each week to ensure the papers assigned to them progress through the system.

Registration is open for the ASCILITE virtual conference (30 Nov – 2 Dec 2020). The registration fee for ASCILITE members is $25 for virtual attendance only and $175 for non-members.  The non-member rate includes one year ASCILITE membership valued at $150. Abstract: Audrea Warner is a Professional Teaching Fellow in the Graduate School of Management, University of Auckland. She has over 17 years of teaching experience in Organisational Behaviour, Human Resource Management and Marketing. Audrea feels a strong sense of responsibility to engage, enlighten, and empower her students both now and for the future. She wants her students to learn from the past, be proactive in the present and work for a better tomorrow. This year Audrea has been working with both national and international academics to present at webinars, write academic blogs and collaborate on research papers on the impact of COVID 19 and the innovative ways academics and organisations have adapted to the emerging academic landscape to support students embrace new learning approaches. She is co-leading ASCILITE’s Business Education SIG.

Presenters: Audrea Warner is a Professional Teachinrs: Sandy Barker is a Lecturer and Digital Learning Leader in Management at UniSA Business. As the Digital Learning Leader she takes responsibility for working with academic colleagues to ensure a high standard of digital resources for all students. As a lecturer Sandy is involved in teaching and curriculum development for undergraduate students in both Australia and Hong Kong as well as coordinating coursework practicums/placements for final year undergraduates. Sandy has a PhD (Business), Graduate Diploma in Education Studies (Digital Learning), Graduate Certificate in Education (University Teaching), and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Chemistry). Sandy is interested in experiential learning research with a focus on work placements, graduate qualities/enterprise skills, learning analytics, business simulations and role play. All courses that she teaches have an experiential component to ensure students are ready for the professional world as soon as they graduate. She is a current member of the ASCILITE Executive, was the Convenor for the 2016 ASCILITE conference and was on the organising committee of the 2003 ASCILITE conference held in Adelaide.
