Site-Seeing Program

 

The following tours are available any day before, during and after the Conference. Please nominate tour and day on your registration form. Buy any two full day tours per person and receive a complimentary open dated ticket to the Rialto Observation Deck. The prices of the tours are in Australian Dollars and must be paid with your registration. If any of the tours do not proceed, moneys paid will be refunded.


TOUR 1 City & Dandenong Forest
Departs: 12.20pm (from the Carlton Crest Hotel)
Returns: approx. 5.30pm
A tour of contrasts showing the inner city with Melbourne's surrounds. Examine Melbourne's suburban sprawl before ascending the splendid forests of the Dandenong Ranges. Cool mountain forests, tree-ferned gullies and towering timbers dominate the view. During a break you may hand-fee wild Crimson rosellas or spot other birdlife like kookaburras, parrots or maybe a lyrebird. At the summit of Mt. Dandenong, take in the panoramic views of Melbourne and Port Phillip Bay.

TOUR 2 Puffing Billy, Yarra Valley & Healsville
Departs: 7.45am (from the Carllton Crest Hotel)
Returns: approx. 5.30pm
Australia's most renowned steam train, Puffing Billy, winds its way through lush ferns and towering timbers. Victoria's wine region unfolds beyond the mountains, offering great wine and cuisine. Nestled in the foothills is Healsville Sanctuary. Stroll amongst koalas, kangaroos, platypus, kookaburras, dingoes and more. Enjoy a delicious spit roast lunch, with samples of table wine complimented by warm local hospitality (vegetarian meals available)

TOUR 3 Great Ocean Road
Departs: 7.45am (from the Carllton Crest Hotel)
Returns: approx. 9.40pm
Australia, the world's largest island. Absorb our beautiful Southern coastline along this world class scenic highway. Sit back and enjoy the views of sweeping beaches, sleepy coastal resorts and spectacular cliffsides along the forever winding highway. Lunch break taken in Apollo Bay - along wide surf beach. Time for a beachside walk or enjoy a typical Victorian pub meal (lunch at own expense). The afternoon offers you even more breathtaking sights. Otway National Park unfolds ahead revealing a wealth of greenery: ferns and mosses nestle in secluded damp gullies by giant families of Blue Gum, Mountain Ash, Manna Gum and Mountain Grey Gum. Discover the amazing history of over 50 shipwrecks along this rugged coastline. We arrive in Port Campbell, a fishing village and holiday resort for a brief afternoon refreshment stop before proceeding inland to Colac for our dinner break (Evening meal at own expense).

TOUR 4 Penguin Visit 
Departs: 12.20pm (from the Carlton Crest Hotel)
Returns: approx. 10.30pm
The little penguins provide a wonderful spectacle as they break free of the surf and waddle home across the sand at dusk at Phillip Island. The boardwalks constructed above the nests allows you to see the penguins up-close. The tour includes a visit to the Koala Conservation Centre where you will encounter koalas up in their natural environment.

TOUR 5 Sovereign Hill & Wildlife Park
Departs: 7.45am (from the Carlton Crest Hotel)
Returns: approx. 5.30pm
Sovereign Hill in Ballarat is a perfectly recreated example of life during Victoria's gold rush era of the 1850s. Explore the daily ritual of this gold town and stroll the main street to visit the goldsmiths, craftsmen, traders and the recreation of local folk at work and play. Seek your fortune whilst panning for gold in the stream, go underground to the fascinating gold mine, see the museum, or ride a stagecoach through the village.
