META-ANALYSIS, SOCIAL INTERACTION AND THE EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE WITH ICT IN EDUCATION

The Panel: Jens Christenson, Ulf Lundin, Carlos Triay and Erno Lehtonen and others.

The panel will discuss the EU research programme on Technology Enhanced Learning. They will also explore Australian support for research and technological development. Further discussion will detail projects such as the Learning Project Cluster and the European Schoolnet. Finally discussion will focus on the advantages of international co-operation. 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN ICT, A RANGE OF POSSIBILITIES

This session will provide participants with a range of Professional Development Models for ICT. Greg Gebhart from Lowanna College, Gippsland has developed a range of local professional development models including a regional ICT conference, specialist after hour programs, ICT forums and community linked projects. Robyn Treyvaud Wesley College, Prahran has been involved in a range of Professional Development models for the integration of ICT into the curriculum. She is the Curriculum and Learning Technologies Co-ordinator in a laptop environment. Lori Rounds, Technology Coordinator, The Woods Academy, Maryland USA co-ordinates regular professional development programs in a wide range of technology areas in the Washington USA region. The presenters have won awards for their work in ICT and are regular presenters in professional development programs. There is a wide range of expertise between the three. In this panel session, they will share their experiences, views and professional development models and other ICT issues.

DEVELOPING DISTANCE EDUCATION COURSES P-12 NOW AND FOR THE FUTURE

The Panel: Darrell Reid, Danuta Baran-Tait, Fiona Webster, Matthew Aston, Nikki Smith, Carol Ford - Distance Education Centre Victoria's Course Development Management Team 

The Distance Education Centre, Victoria (DECV) is a P-12 school providing flexible educational services for people who, for varying reasons, require tuition via distance education. The school currently caters for approximately 1000 full-time students and 1800 part-time students. For the full-time students, the DECV is the sole educational provider. Enrolments have increased 20% for each of the last two years. The DECV operates within a rapidly changing educational world. The School takes account of its changing client needs and integrates new Information and Communication Technologies (I&CT) into its teaching programs. It provides services to students and schools in the context of key Government policies, initiatives and directions. The School maintains strong Pastoral Care Programs for all its students. In 2001 a new Course Development Management Team (CDMT) was formed to refine and oversee the course development process. In this session DECV CDMT members will discuss a range issues arising from developing courses in a range of formats, from full online to paper based technologies, for a very diverse P-12 client base.
