Constructivist Pedagogies of Interactivity on a CD-Rom to Enhance Academic Learning at a Tertiary Institution

Juliette D. G. Goldman, PhD, is in the Faculty of Education, Griffith University, Queensland, Australia. Having trained as a Primary and Infants teacher, she has taught and researched in many countries. She has published books and numerous academic journal articles on educational curriculum, educational pedagogies, and multimedia. She was the first person in her university to write a CD-Rom for university students for a whole subject in the Bachelor of Education. The educational designer for that CD-Rom was her co-author of this paper. She continues to research learning pedagogies using technologies.

Geraldine Torrisi-Steele, B.Sc, B.Ed, M.Ed,. is currently completing her PhD in Multimedia Learning. She is in the School of Information Technology at Griffith University, and her background is in professional design, development and delivery of multimedia courseware for on-campus and remote area students in Australia. She has researched and published in those areas, and her current research addresses the application of new technologies in improving the quality of learning in educational contexts.

George P. Schell received his doctorate from Purdue University in 1983. He is currently Associate Professor of Management Information Systems at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Dr. Schell is active in the development of Web-based educational materials and has taught Web-based courses and researched in this area for several years. His research has appeared in Information & Management, Computer Personnel, Interfaces, Education and Information Technologies, and others.

G. Jay Weinroth is Associate Professor and Chairperson in the Department of Management and Information Systems, Graduate School of Management, Kent State University. He is co-author of a book on systems simulation for operations management and has authored several articles in various refereed journals, including Omega, IEEE Transactions, and Simulation. He has edited two proceedings of the Society for Computer Simulation International and is a past member of its board. His areas of expertise include ethics in information systems, data center management, and intelligent simulation systems.

Students' Usage and Perceptions of the ELITE Programme

Kar Tin Lee is Associate Dean, School of Creative Arts, Sciences & Technology and Head of the Department of Information & Applied Technology, Hong Kong Institute of Education. Throughout her career she has been proactive in many IT initiatives at all levels. She has been involved in several large IT projects commissioned by the Hong Kong government and advises various committees on IT issues. Her current research focuses on the integration of IT across the curriculum including use of web-based pedagogy and the impact of use of ICT on student learning in Hong Kong schools. She has also been responsible for initiating many new policies and IT integration projects that involved organizing and facilitating the IT competency in education standards for trainee teachers and for staff.
