SUMMARY:TELedvisors Network Webinar: Using Cogniti agents to improve learning: Practitioner case studies
DESCRIPTION:Since Cogniti was initially developed at the University of Sydney by Professor Danny Liu and his team\, there has been a lot of interest and adoption of Cogniti at different institutions\, and in the use of AI agents more generally. \nIn this webinar three case studies are presented from the University of Sydney\, the University of Auckland\, and Queensland University of Technology\, about the use of Cogniti to improve the student learning experience. \n  \nPresentation 1 – Dr Andrew Bartlett (University of Sydney) \n\nDesigning AI-Enhanced Learning Experiences: Integrating Cogniti Agents and Mini-Apps into Pharmacy Education \nAndrew will discuss his work integrating Cogniti agents into pharmacy education in a way that develops students understanding of difficult concepts along with use of Mini-apps as part of tutorial activities.  \nPresentation 2 – Dr Bettina Schwenger\, Dr Andrea Kolb\, and Dr Marion Blumenstein (The University of Auckland) \n\nCogniti AI course agents: Student experiences and recommendations for teachers \nWhat do students really think about learning with Cogniti—and how can their experiences guide your teaching practice? This cross-faculty academic team explores how Cogniti agents might influence students’ critical thinking and self-regulated learning (SRL)\, core graduate capabilities for lifelong learning. The aim was to understand learning from the student perspective\, not to evaluate teaching. The Semester One (S1) Cogniti pilot initially involved three first year courses (mathematics\, bioscience\, education). In Semester Two (S2)\, the pilot expanded to 18 courses across all faculties. In-person discussions with students grouped by their discipline (four groups with 20 students in total)\, provided deeper insight on the impact of the course agent on students’ problem-solving skills\, ability to reflect on their learning\, staying focused\, task completion and better understanding of what is expected of them. Themes from the group discussions revealed several perceived benefits and drawbacks of learning with the AI course agents. \nPresentation 3 – Dr Sam Cunningham (Queensland University of Technology) \n\nUsing Cogniti agents to emulate stakeholder engagement in a core first year engineering unit \nSam has used Cogniti agents in his core first year engineering unit to emulate stakeholder engagement for user centred design approaches. The embedded Cogniti agents offer students 3 different user personas\, across 3 different project types.
