SUMMARY:LD SIG Monthly webinar Jun 16th 12pm
DESCRIPTION:Title:\nMoving out of the shadows: Using data-driven approaches to reform learning design practice\n\nAbstract:\nData provides us with insights into the effectiveness of learning and teaching practices and enables us to monitor trends\, make comparisons and plan intentional\, evidence-informed improvements to learning. But what happens when the changes don’t produce the desired results? In this session I will showcase how it took a multi-layered approach to transform a unit\, which transpired over several semesters before success was achieved..\n\nCome along and let’s have a conversation about data-driven reform in learning design practice and evidencing the impact of our work. I’ll share some highly practical ways in which I use data to evaluate and enhance my practice and together we can gain insights about how to bring learning design out of the shadows and into the light.\n\nBio:\nJo is a Senior Learning Designer working in the Centre for Learning and Teaching at Edith Cowan University in Western Australia. She has worked as a learning designer for 10+ years\, specialising in technology-enhanced learning\, complex curriculum designs\, career readiness and work-integrated learning as well as assessment best-practice. Jo is committed to supporting high-quality teaching and learning and engages in evaluation of learning and collaborative SoTL research as part of her ongoing practice. She has 9+ years’ experience as an online Lecturer in ECU’s School of Business and Law\, is an ASCILITE member and recently became a Senior Fellow with Advance HE\, a UK based higher education organisation who promote teaching and learning excellence internationally. She has been the recipient of an ECU Vice Chancellor’s citation (2020) and an Australian Award for University Teaching (2021) for her outstanding contributions to student learning.

SUMMARY:TELedvisor Webinar: Educational technology\, student equity and the role of third space professionals
DESCRIPTION:Registration link \nIn the first part of this webinar\, Zhiqiang Amos Tay shares findings from his almost completed doctoral research. With the widespread use of learning technologies in higher education\, learning and teaching increasingly involves not only teaching academics but also third-space professionals\, in particular learning designers. Amos examines how they understand learning technologies\, which is critical to shaping the learning and teaching process. In this talk\, he will share the findings from a recently-published AJET paper. \nIn the second part\, Dr Anita Wheeldon discusses her research into the comparable lived experiences of professional staff and academics. Our universities are well recognised as unique places to work that have their own\, particular characteristics. The binary staffing structures of academic and professional staff manifests in two distinct lived experiences of work life. At times these differing experiences can seem confusing\, frustrating\, perplexing and combative. It can be hard to understand why these dynamics exist unless you have experienced both. Anita will discuss the implications of these dynamics for TELedvisors. \nZhiqiang Amos Tay is a teacher and a PhD candidate at QUT in the final stages of his research. His most recent paper was published in the latest AJET issue: Learning technology as contested terrain: Insights from teaching academics and learning designers in Australian higher education \nDr Anita Wheeldon (SFHEA) has experienced university life as both a professional staff manager and as an academic Program Director at UniSQ. Her most recent paper was published in the Higher Education Quarterly: Fish-out-of-office: How managerialised university conditions make administrative knowledge inaccessible to academics \nRegistration link
