ACAD highlights design structures at two distinct moments: (i) ‘design time’ – which accounts for the advanced planning that occurs as an educator selects tasks\, tools\, and complementary social arrangements to support a specific learning scenarios; and (ii) ‘learning time’ or what happens as a learning activity unfolds. In this presentation Lucila Carvalho will introduce key ideas connected to the ACAD Framework and discuss the application of these analytical ideas by educational researchers and designers across universities and school contexts. \nBiography: \nLucila Carvalho is an associate professor at the Institute of Education and co-director of the Equity Through Education Research Centre\, at Massey University\, New Zealand. Lucila’s research interests are at the intersection of sociology\, design\, digital technologies and learning (in both formal and non-formal settings)—where she explores how knowledge and social structures shape the design and use of technology\, and how technology influences social and educational experiences. SUMMARY:2022 ASCILITE Spring into Excellence Research School
DESCRIPTION:The ASCILITE Spring into Excellence Research School is will be held over three (3) days in which academic and professional staff come together to further develop their research skills. The school is facilitated by senior researchers and leaders drawn from the ASCILITE community.  It includes lunches\, morning and afternoon teas and 2 night’s accommodation with previous year school costs set at $750 for ASCILITE members and $950 for non-members (less accommodation costs if not required). Fees are expected to be similar in 2022 to past years but may depend on the availability and cost of accommodation. The Research School commences at mid-day (day one) and finishes at around 3pm on day three. \nIf you are interested in enrolling in the event please complete this simple EOI form so that we may keep you posted as details become clearer in the new year.

SUMMARY:A journey through time and space - Mixed reality media in teaching. TELedvisors October webinar
DESCRIPTION:One of the greatest benefits of technology for learning and teaching is the opportunity to do things that would simply not be possible in person. Augmented/Virtual/Mixed Reality\, 3D models\, video games and simulations and even simpler tools such as Light Boards extend our ability to share experiences and ideas. This webinar showcases two innovative examples of the use of these teaching tools in practice. \nScanning a dinosaur and other stories: defining digital space through 3D and 360 \nDespite technical advances in online learning\, there are still some laws of physics that prove challenging for navigating physical elements in the online environment. UNE has been using innovative media techniques to break down the divide and render physical objects and places in meaningful ways in digital space. This presentation will showcase some key examples and applications of 3D and 360 media and share lessons learned about what is and isn’t possible. \nGreg Dorrian is the Manager of the Learning Media team at UNE. He works with his team to champion the creation\, support and education surrounding high-quality digital learning experiences using innovative media technologies in a digital first approach. \nArtificial Intelligence (AI) is now\, not the future.  \nAs educators AI offers many possibilities\, as well as challenges. The Business Co-design team at the University of Sydney has designed and developed an AI generated ‘Guest presenter’ to immerse students in ethical issues in business. Using AI posed interesting educational and ethical questions during its production and implementation. In this presentation\, we share our learnings from student responses to their experiences of AI avatars. Future directions are also considered. \nCarmen Vallis is an Educational Developer and researcher at the University of Sydney Business School. Her work and research combines education\, digital technologies\, creative writing and practice. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA)\, an Associate Editor\, Educational Technology for The Journal of University Teaching and Learning Practice (JUTLP)\, and spends way too much time on her laptop.
