SUMMARY:Learning Design SIG webinar on entangled pedagogy and learning design
DESCRIPTION:Singapore/Hong Kong 2pm |  New Zealand 6pm | Other time zones \nEntangled pedagogy challenges the notion that technology-first or pedagogy-first framings accurately describe the complex relationships between the different elements that contribute to any educational activity. It offers a framework for thinking about how these elements inevitably shape each other\, and about the kinds of approaches and knowledge that can support educators to effectively navigate the messy\, emergent spaces of teaching and learning. In this talk\, our presenter will use the entangled pedagogy framework to think about the implications for learning design and how aspects of educational activity are inevitably interrelated and distributed across different kinds of staff and students\, both constraining and strengthening possibilities for practice. The presentation will also briefly consider some implications for faculty development\, technological adoption\, different modalities of teaching (e.g. on campus\, online and hybrid) and ethics. \nPresenter \nDr Tim Fawns is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Education\, University of Edinburgh and Deputy Programme Director of the online MSc Clinical Education\, Director of the international Edinburgh Summer School in Clinical Education. He also runs a course in “Postdigital Society” for the Edinburgh Futures Institute. His main academic interests are in teaching\, learning and assessment (mostly in healthcare and professional education)\, technology\, and memory. Before his current role\, he was a learning technologist\, and a graphic and web designer. Tim is an Australian who went travelling one day and forgot to go back\, married an Edinburgher and now has three kids who think they’re Scottish. \nRegistration \nPlease join this session in Collaborate here.  SIG members and non-members are all welcome!

SUMMARY:Making a difference: how can edvisors influence learning and teaching? (TELedvisors July webinar)
DESCRIPTION:To access\, just go to https://bit.ly/TELedsinar  (Sessions are recorded and kept in our YouTube channel) \nEdvisors – learning designers\, academic developers\, education technologists and other people in 3rd space roles – have a lot to offer when it comes to facilitating good learning and teaching. We bring rich and varied experience from both our past careers and our time working with many educators in our institutions. \nYet for a range of different reasons\, many of us feel under-utilised when it comes to meaningfully shaping and supporting good learning and teaching. \nThis month’s TELedvisors Network webinar will explore how our teams work\, how we work in our teams and is intended to kickstart a wider discussion about what else we can and should be doing to make a difference. \nFeaturing: \nDr. Alexandra Mihai is Assistant Professor of Innovation in Higher Education in the Department of Educational Research and Development\, School of Business and Economics\, Maastricht University. Previously she worked as Learning Designer at University College London (UCL)\, Curriculum Designer at the Institute of European Studies\, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and led the Centre for Teaching Innovations at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin. Alexandra has a strong background in e-learning\, learning design and innovative teaching strategies. In her PhD she analysed in how far technology is used in teaching practices at European universities. She is also the creator of The Educationalist blog \nIdentities and roles of Centers for Teaching and Learning in the post-pandemic Higher Education landscape \nThis talk is based on the preliminary results of my current Fulbright research on Centers for Teaching and Learning in the US. The main themes to be addressed are: identity and positioning of CTLs\, organisational culture and career development\, CTL offer and programming and the integration of support on pedagogy and educational technology.  \nSarah Thorneycroft – Program Director of Digital Education\, University of New England\, Higher Education IT influencer and long time TELedvisor \nDr Steph Toole – Manager\, Learning Design at the University of New England \nThe Art of Impact  \nWhile edvisors bring a rich range of expertise with them\, translating that expertise into impact can be difficult in complex systems like universities\, and how we work as people in context is often overlooked as a critical praxis domain. Sarah Thorneycroft and Steph Toole from UNE have been leading an integrated model of learning design that’s grounded in intentional design of praxis\, and will share some of the ways that edvisors can design and cultivate personal\, interpersonal and organisational practices to increase impact.
