| Presenter's Title and Organisation:Parvis Doulai Workshop Title: Dynamic Web Environments in Educational Settings Time: 9.30 am - 12.30 Outline The new and emerging Web related educational technologies offer an environment for creating and publishing a dynamic and interactive educational courseware. The resulting instructional Web pages may have embedded real-time, streamed multimedia files including audio, video and animation. The playback of multimedia files can be synchronised with display of Web pages and images so learners find themselves in a truly dynamic, virtual classroom with a variety of interactive tools and resources. Aim The aim of this workshop is to introduce the new and emerging dynamic Web environments through which course administrative and educational tools are provided with minimum level of complexity and support demand for students and instructors. Main Topics Topics listed below will be covered mainly through demonstrations using completed in-house development projects. Some shareware and freeware programs plus templates and sample implementations will be distributed on a CD-ROM at the Workshop so that you can implement similar projects at a minimum time invested. Assumed knowledge includes the ability to use a text editor in MS-Windows, Mac or UNIX. - Media files handling on the Web: Access & retrieval (text, image, sound, movies, etc.),
- Quick overview of widely used graphic, utility, plug-in and network programs,
- "Jump-starting" students and instructors into on-line environments,
- Introducing integrated courseware development tools such as WebCT and TopClass,
- Tools and methods that make the Web a dynamic environment with a good degree of interactivity;
- Case Study 1: Web-based assessment,
- Case Study 2: Course administrative tools such as progress tracking, grading, etc.
- Case Study 3: Course educational tools such as notes, communications, self-test, etc.
- Real-time streaming technologies; audio, video and animation files for Internet delivery
