Many of the problems associated with producing stand-alone CD-ROM titles, often resulting in gross underestimates of the time span for production, can be alleviated by using an 'authoring system' with many pre-defined features. The Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) Unit in the School of Medicine at The Flinders University of South Australia (FUSA) has developed such a program. LessonMaker allows academics with basic computer skills to produce interactive instructional modules which provide students with a consistent interface across all modules.
