EdTech'98 will be held in Perth in July 1998 by the Australian Society for Educational Technology WA Chapter.

EdTech'98 will bring together individuals and organisations with a common interest in the use of communications and information technologies to improve the processes of human learning. It will enable teachers and schools involved in exploring the application of these technologies to education to showcase their work, share their achievements as well as their problems, and teach others who are new to this field.

EdTech'98 is being organised at a time when the State Government, conscious of its obligation to keep abreast of modern developments, is investing unprecedented sums of money into encouraging the use of information and educational technology in schools, through its Technology Focus Schools, Innovation and the Classroom, and Internet in the Classroom Projects.

EdTech'98 will function on three levels:

• as a face to face conference focussed on small group and practical activities aimed at maximising interaction and encouraging post-Conference networking

• as a virtual or online conference in the period Monday 22 June to Friday 17 July 1998

• as a video conference linking a number of sites nationally and internationally

The Conference Theme Planning for Progress, Partnership and Profit reflects the needs and perspectives of the four major categories of delegate that can be expected to take an interest in the Conference:

• Teachers, instructors, trainers and service providers

• Administrators, consultants, planning officers, managers and coordinators

• Designers, producers, distributors and end users

• Researchers, project officers, instructional technologists and students
