Call for Proposals for a Special Issue of AJET
The editors of the Australasian Journal of Educational Technology (AJET) welcome expressions of interest from individuals or teams interested in guest editing a special issue of the journal in 2015.
Expressions of interest of up to 500 words should include the following information:
- Names and affiliations of guest editor(s), including experience and brief biographical details
- Proposed special edition theme, including possible topics
- The relevance of the theme to the scope and coverage of the journal
- The significance of the theme in advancing the field of educational technology in higher education.
Full proposals will be requested from shortlisted EOIs selected by the AJET editorial board.
Please email your expression of interest to Dr Sue Bennett, AJET joint Lead Editor, by 31 May 2014.

Digital and mobile platforms still have untapped potential for engaging learners, and gamification is one example of how we can leverage on these capabilities to truly enhance students’learning. This webinar will be presented by Keith Ng who will also share a case-study with Singapore Management University for a mobile app, GameLead, that gamified the module “Leadership and Team-building” in early 2014, powered by Gametize, with in-depth analysis on what worked, and what did not.
Keith Ng (@keizng) is the CEO of Gametize, a gamification company that integrates game psychology into audience engagement. His team “gametizes” learning, employee engagement, etc, in enterprises and institutions such as SingTel, Standard Chartered Bank, DBS, NTU and Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Call for papers – EITT2014
The Society of International Chinese in Educational Technology (SICET) has organized its third International Conference on Educational Innovation through Technology (EITT) as a forum for researchers in educational technology to present research findings and exchange experiences in this exciting field. The conference will be held from 27-29 October, 2014 in Brisbane, Australia.
We are now inviting submissions to the following topics, inclusive but not exhaustive:
- educational information strategies, policies and assessment (national and regional);
- theories and practices of informational/instructional technology integration into curriculum;
- theories and practices of open and distance education;
- teacher education and development for ICT in Education;
- leadership in ICT in Education;
- innovation of Chinese and language teaching in digital learning environments;
- intelligence, mobile, and ubiquitous learning；
- technology, structure, standards, and system; and
- studies of ICT in education based on comparison or collaboration among different countries and regions.

Early Career Researcher: Call for Submission of Abstracts to altc2014
This is a call for abstracts for the 2014 ALT conference, ³Riding Giants: How to innovate and educate ahead of the wave² which will be held at the University of Warwick in the UK.
This is the UK’s main conference for learning technologists and one of the largest conferences of its kind, typically attracting over 500 delegates from around the world.
ALT is looking to encourage submissions from early career researchers and doctoral students either via the standard research paper route (now open) or by having a short 15 minute slot.
They are particularly interested in abstracts from early career researchers related to the Predicting Giants theme “What are our now and forthcoming big questions, big challenges, and big changes?”
On the last day of the conference, there will be an early career researcher-focused day, including:
a research-related keynote address covering presentations on impact and dissemination with networking opportunities to meet other researchers who are at the same stage.

Alternative study models ‘causing real angst’ for universities
Diana Oblinger, chief executive of Educause, recently spoke at the JISC Digital Festival in the UK about alternative study models in universities and emphasised that universities must ensure they’re “on top of social media” and keep an eye on alternative study models. Read more >>.

Digital literacies for lifelong/online learning
One area the JISC digital literacies programme did not set out to explore was the capabilities required to learn successfully online. Before the current interest in MOOCs led to a resurgence of online-only provision, the focus was on harnessing digital technologies to the requirements of a blended context, and this was reflected both in the call for project bids and in the ideas which were put forward for funding. Digital voices and media-enhanced learning
The Media-Enhanced Learning Special Interest Group (MELSIG) is a forum for thinking differently about digital and social media, and how we can use them to enhance learning environments. MELSIG includes academics, learning technologists, educational developers and students from post-compulsory education in the UK, led by a core group who organise a range of activities. The SIG works together as a voluntary open association with contributions from institutional hosts to cover the costs of events. Read more >>
